Koderus facade work in winter

Are you building or renovating a house? Facade work can be done even in the winter

Usually, when building or renovating a house, all façade works are rushed to be completed before the onset of the cold season or delayed until spring. However, an increasing number of materials and solutions today make it possible to carry out façade insulation and decoration even in our winter conditions.

One such material is “Koderus 2in1″—concrete facade insulation and decoration panels. What are the features of these panels, and why are they suitable to be installed during the cold season?

The production utilizes patented technology

“Koderus 2in1” panels are manufactured using a high-grade concrete mixture prepared following a special patented technology. Initially, a precisely calculated amount of concrete mixture is poured into the molds, followed by pressing the polystyrene layer with the forging press.

“The most distinctive feature of the production process is that the two technically different materials – concrete and polystyrene – are combined without using adhesives, screws or other additives. These firmly bonded materials ensure the durability and resistance of the product, even at extreme temperatures or during temperature fluctuations. Thus, the layers of the product do not peel off, and the product does not disintegrate,” says Viktoras Mostovojus, Chief Production Officer of “Koderus”, the Lithuanian company that developed the panels.

The decoration thickness of concrete can range from 10 mm to 20 mm, while that of polystyrene ranges from 50 mm to 300 mm.

Simple and quick installation

The installation of “Koderus 2in1” panels consists of just two steps: mounting the panels to the walls of the house and sealing the joints. “Installation is simple, and the technicians working on the facades quickly and easily pick up the technique. For instance, three workers can install the panels for a 100 sq. m. house in 3 to 5 days. „We always provide our customers with precise instructions on how to install and what requirements to follow,” says Mostovojus.

As “Koderus 2in1” panels are not affected by sub-zero temperatures, they can be installed even in the winter season. In such cases, a special adhesive is required to properly fill and seal the joints. It is essential to cover the façade in colder temperatures, to ensure that the work is carried out on a dry and frost-free wall surface. Once the outside façade work has been completed, finishing and other work can be performed inside the house without having to wait for spring.

“One of the key advantages of our product is that the façade decoration panels already have a layer of polystyrene insulation. This avoids the need for separate additional insulation work

and allows the facade work to be completed twice as fast. This way, the customer saves time, can expect the completion of the construction or renovation, and incurs lower work costs,” adds Mostovojus.

Distinguished for durability

“Koderus 2in1” panels have been tested under different conditions; evaluations of their durability, impact resistance, flammability and other factors have been performed. The product holds a National Technical Assessment issued by the Centre for Certification of Construction Products and received the gold medal in the Lithuanian Product of the Year Awards in 2021.

“Concrete is one of the strongest and most durable construction materials: resistant to environmental factors, impact, fire and sunlight. Hence, a concrete facade endures for decades, maintaining its robust and solid appearance, retaining its colour, and requiring no restoration. Compared to the “wet” facade popular in Lithuania, these panels provide superior durability and are easier to maintain,” says the expert.

In a rare case of damage to a panel over time, it is easy to replace it without damaging other elements of the façade. In the event of damage, the concrete is broken out, the 50 mm layer of polystyrene is sanded off, and a new panel with 50 mm of polystyrene is glued in place of the damaged panel.

Preserves the heat of the building

Additionally, the “Koderus” facade offers thermal insulation features: the building retains heat, and the surface temperature of the interior walls remains consistent, preventing the emergence of mold.

According to the company’s Chief Production Officer, concrete cladding panels can achieve the A++ energy efficiency class standards required for new buildings if the appropriate thickness of the insulation material is selected. Due to their exceptional features and rapid installation, “Koderus” exterior facades are now being actively considered by construction companies involved in building renovation.

Choose from 12 textures or design your own

Customers can pick “Koderus 2in1” panels from 12 textures, ranging from natural smooth surfaces to stone, tile, wood, or strip patterns. Additionally, the panels are available in 7 different colours.

The company can produce panels in any texture and colour as well, according to individual customer requests. “It takes about 3-4 weeks to create new molds and approximately one week to produce the panels. Currently, we have no restrictions on individual orders — we can produce panels of the desired design for orders of any size,” says Mostovojus.

The price of the panels primarily depends on the thickness and the type of thermal insulation layer chosen, while texture and colour do not affect the price. For example, the “Koderus” façade with a standard texture and 150 mm thick 80-layer polystyrene for a 100 sq. m. house costs around EUR 7,000.
